Success or Bust!
We’ve all been driving down the road and seen those infamous signs in the back of all types of automobiles that say something like “Disneyland or Bust”. What does this mean? Basically, it means that those people are on their way to Disneyland and they will do absolutely anything no matter how much money, time or gas that they waste. They will get to Disneyland or BUST (go broke, run out of gas, waste too much time) trying to get there.
Now, let me ask you a question. Are you wearing this sign on your back as you head down the road to financial freedom?
SUCCESS OR BUST!
No, I don’t mean a real sign but you are doing everything possible to become successful no matter how much money, time or relationships it cost you. If this is you, then here’s a suggestion…stop the madness! Your success journey should progressively improve as you head down the path. Let me give you an example.
One of my coaching clients had been building her business for five years without any financial gain. That’s right, absolutely no progress. After just a few coaching sessions, she realized that she had been building her business wrong for five years. The minute that she began implementing strategies and techniques that actually work her business went through the roof. She’s now on her success journey and she is paving her way with golden bricks. This lady refuses to wear that sign that most of you are wearing…Success or Bust!
So, how do you know if you have that sign on your back? Here are some clues:
A workaholic is someone who has no identity beyond their work. Life is about so much more than what you do. It is about the relationships you develop and nurture. It is about social impact in your community. It is about the growth and learning you experience. It is about living passionately.
We are creative by our very nature, it’s in our genes. Applied intelligence equals creativity. Intelligence takes on many forms. So this creates a new question:
Where is your definition of a workaholic more likely? One living in passion or one living in isolation and fear?
The True Entrepreneur is one that I witness their values, passion, and whole way of being aligned with what they do. In this way, the entrepreneur is just being. The business, the vocation, the passion, the purpose, the values, interests, etc. are all a part of who the individual is.
Externally, I don’t think anyone could casually observe a difference between a workaholic and this entrepreneur. However, the individual knows. Deep down inside, the answer is known and typically the individual will turn away from acknowledging that truth and rationalize sticking to their tried and true behavior. The tried and true is comfortable. To admit the truth requires change and change is uncomfortable.
Many people welcome change in their external environment and consider themselves capable and open to change. Unfortunately, for most the relationship to the inner self is one of fear; there’s a whole can of worms that gets opened when we start doing the inner work. Knowing this, on a gut level, our subconscious quickly reverts to the tried and true. It’s hard work to change.
The good news though, is that many entrepreneurs have the ability to see what is happening around them. This ability is what makes entrepreneurs visionary go-getters. However, this does not exempt entrepreneurs from getting caught-up in their business to the detriment of a well-balanced life.
A well-balanced life is more powerful than the hard work that you put into a business. A well-balanced life feeds the brain, the spirit, the emotions, and the body. In creating the space for relationship, recreation, and rest, the benefits experienced will offer stronger focus, greater creativity (beneficial for problem-solving and decision-making), greater self-esteem, and mental/emotional/physical health. Knowing this, choices are made.
If incorporating a well-balanced life would allow you to achieve the same amount of output in 60 hours versus the 80 hours of perseverance, which would you choose?
The other thing entrepreneurs have difficulty with is learning when to say, “No.” and when to say, “That’s enough.” Always after a new conquest, a new experience, a new peak, and new challenges, an entrepreneur can get all that energy too caught up in the business arena. This will lead to the very thing you fear. Instead, split this energy to have a well-balanced life. Achievement will be far richer in the relationship arena and the personal growth arena.
The experience of Life can be incredibly rich, just don’t get so caught up in riches that you neglect your Whole Life.
While I was growing up, my mother used mention that many times whatever she thought about appeared magically into her life and the same rule applied when she thought of something she did not want! She also used to say that if she wanted something badly that kept eluding her; she would not get it UNLESS she stopped feeling bad about NOT having it.
I never gave this much thought until I came across the concept of Manifestation and Manifesting Mindset. I was amazed to discover that what my mother used to mention in passing was actually a Universal Law… the Law of Attraction.
In simple words, the Law of Attraction maintains that we create the life that we are living! Whatever we think and whatever we feel – we receive. You draw to yourself those experiences that match your beliefs; be they conscious or unconscious.
The question arises why some of our desires never materialize, no matter how much we think about them? The answer to this is that you might be focusing more on the negative aspect of your desire. For example, you may really want to go on a trip to the Caribbean but never seem to be able to get there. One thing or the other keeps popping up hat delays your plans. Try to concentrate on what goes on in your mind when you think about your vacation. Perhaps every time you think about going to the Caribbean, you focus on thoughts like, “oh, I will never be able to make it there… I will never have enough money… my boss would never let me take time off…I have so many other things to do… Even if I manage everything else, with my luck something will come up etc”. What happens is that your FOCUS on the negative aspects manifests all the undesirable events you do not want.
There are certain requirements for pleasant things to manifest in your life:
– First of all, be grateful for what you already have been provided. The thankful get more!
– Be clear on what you want. Think of your desires in a very specific manner, with all the details that you can think of. You HAVE to make a choice and then explain that choice to yourself before you can receive what you want.
– Once you are clear on what you want, wish for it as if you already have it. Do not let the unpleasant “wanting” feeling mar your manifestation magic. Imagine in detail how you would feel having it. It is imperative that you put your emotions into it.
– Always think of your desires in a positive way and frame your thoughts positively. For example, thinking that you DO NOT want to be fat, you DO NOT want to be shy in public or you DO NOT want to be a lazy couch potato will not work. Instead, say, “My weight is within the healthy range for my height”, “I am outgoing and confident”, “I exercise regularly” etc.
– Release your desire to the Universe (substitute this word with God, Higher Being, Higher Self as you like). Do not worry about the “hows”, “what” is all you need to focus on!
– Once your desires materialize, do not forget to be thankful. This is VERY important!
Oh, and let me be very clear about one thing… do not think that just sitting in your room and visualizing a certain outcome without taking any action will get you what you desire. It is very necessary to keep your eyes open for any opportunities being provided to you to obtain your goal and to grab them.
I have given you a simplified version of the Universal Laws of Attraction and how to utilize them to get your way. I hope that I have sparked enough interest in you to try these techniques in your life and to try and find ways to become a Master Manifestor.
May all our dreams come true!!
The importance of immediate, massive, daily action has been written about many times already but it is so important that it is worth writing about again and again. The examples in this article come from the world of business but they could apply to any other walk of life as well.
Marketing is the life blood of business but sometimes businessmen will wait until they have written the perfect advertisement or sales message before they send out even one ad. They also spend weeks making sure their website is beautifully designed with all the latest refinements.
Meanwhile good selling time is passing them by. Their product may even be out of date before they are happy with the advertisements. By the time they have everything perfect and ready to go, they may run out of capital and be forced to close down their business.
The best lesson I learned from the late Corey Rudl at a seminar in London was not to worry about creating a perfect website. Just get one up. His own dad had a website selling Ferrari car badges which was very ordinary but it was making money.
Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire Mayor of New York, credits his success to getting going without spending too much time planning:
” We act from day one; others plan how to plan – for months.”
Dave and Heidi Perry talk about a fairly average businessman and average marketer whom they call Jack.
Jack’s motto was: “Doin’ it, Doin’it, Doin’it” i.e do something, anything every day towards achieving your marketing goals.
He kept plugging away each day with his marketing even when the format of his sales brochures and forms was not very good. He would not wait for the format to be improved. He believed in ‘Doin’ it’ even if he was not quite ready to do it.
This philosophy and behaviour made him a multi millionaire and a leader. Even though what he said was not profound and could at times be downright stupid, his action oriented words and behaviour led many to trust him and to follow his suggestions.
“He knew that to get a desired outcome, he had to actually DO something to get there.”
Jack knew that if his audience would just do something – anything – every day toward their goals, they, too, would get there. He, himself, just started doing something.
He didn’t wait until he had enough money to start his business or until his advertising materials were perfect or until he had a stockpile of products to sell. He started with what he had and did something every day to achieve his goal.
You can’t dream or wish your way into riches although this can help. You have to actually do something about it however badly. What is worse than a sales ad? No sales ad. Don’t wait until you have a great website or enough money to start your business.
Get going badly now and do something every day towards achieving your goal. You may still have doubts and fears but by doing something every day you will make progress and your confidence and power will increase.
Some people want to master a piece of software before they use it. The chances are that they will never use it!
The quickest way to learn how a software tool works is to start using it on a daily basis. We will make mistakes, of course, but we will also make progress in understanding the software.
I did not use an autoresponder for ages because I was afraid of making mistakes and sending people the wrong message. When I did get round to using one, I almost immediately made mistakes but learned rapidly how to put them right and no one sent in any letters of complaint!
If possible, find a mentor who can hold your hand while you try something new. However, mentors are not always easily available so trust yourself to have a go on your own and see what happens.
You will probably amaze yourself at what you can achieve on your own especially if you don’t give up at the first signs of trouble.
Obviously preparation, thinking and planning are worth doing but there comes a time when the most important thing is to actually start taking action even if this means you are running risks. Try it and see what happens..
